We did not spend the month chasing paid attractions in Porto. Most of what stayed with us came from walking, eating, crossing the bridge, finding cafés, and slowly getting used to the city.
The one paid experience we were genuinely glad we did was a port tasting in Gaia. It gave the Douro, the cellars, and all those bottle-filled shop windows a bit more context.
Left for next time
The other paid experience we talked about for a while was a Douro Valley day trip.
In the end, we left it.
Part of it was the cost. More than that, it was the feeling that we did not want to rush it. A place like the Douro seemed better done properly: with a car, more flexibility, and at least a couple of days to move through it at the right pace.
A one-day version might still have been beautiful, but it did not feel like the version we wanted.
So we left it as one of those good reasons to come back.
